How Ang Kapuluan works

The goal is simple: grow the recyclables we exchange over time, so our archipelago heals and we climb — Level to Level, Stage to Stage. This page shows exactly how.

♻️ Trash to Cashback 🏝️ 6 Stages · 10 Levels each 🌊 Then Ascension Waves (∞) 📚 A how-to, not a scoreboard
💡
The big idea

Exchange more, heal more, climb

Every kilo of recyclables you bring to a drop-off center instead of the landfill is one small act of healing. When more locations exchange more, more often, the whole picture improves — and that is exactly what the ladder rewards.

It is not about one big drop. It is about growing over time and keeping it up — a steady, shared habit beats a single spike.

For every employee

How YOU exchange — 3 steps

1

Gather your recyclables

Collect the bottles, cans, paper, cartons and plastics you would normally throw away — at your desk, your floor, or at home. Keep them clean and separated.

2

Bring them to the nearest center

Drop them at the nearest exchange / drop-off center (an MBE-C or TTCB Mart). It does not have to be inside your own building — use whichever one is closest to you.

🗺️ Find the nearest center
3

Earn EP, then redeem it

You earn EP / Cashback for what you exchange. Then redeem your EP for goods & services at bXTRA PH partner stores — 1 EP = ₱1 in value. EP is redeemed, not withdrawn.

👤 Open a bXTRA account
👤
You need a bXTRA account to save your EP and to tag your recyclables to your own effort — that is how your drops count toward our climb. Already have one? Tell your team the number or email you used.
♻️
Sort it right

Recycling-ready = more points

The cleaner and more separated it is when you exchange it, the more you earn — because every material (even the parts of one bottle) is a different type worth different points. All of these are accepted; sorting them just pays more.

🧴
One PET bottle = three different plastics. The body (PET #1), the cap (usually HDPE #2 or PP #5) and the label (PP or shrink film) are each a different plastic with its own value. Peel the label, twist off the cap, rinse & flatten the body, and bag the three separately — more separated = more points.
🧴

Plastics

Empty, rinse, dry. Separate caps and labels from bottle bodies — different plastic types earn different points. Flatten to save space.

📄

Paper & cardboard

Keep paper dry (wet is worth much less). Flatten cardboard; remove tape, staples and plastic sleeves. No food or grease.

🥫

Glass & metal

Rinse bottles and cans. Remove lids/caps. Keep aluminum (soda cans) apart from tin/steel (food cans) — different values.

⚠️
Keep these out: food waste, greasy or heavily soiled items, and mixed non-recyclables — they contaminate the batch and lower everyone's points. Clean + separated always wins. Full home guide → Knowledge Hub · Recycle Right.

The map of the journey

Stages & Levels, explained

🪜 A Level (1 → 10)

Your progress bar within a stage — the next small, measurable step. Fill all 10 Levels and you graduate to the next Stage at Level 1. Levels answer: "what's my next move this month?"

🚀 A Stage (1 → 6)

A bigger chapter of the culture — a whole new phase, not just "more of the same." Think of a Stage as the belt and a Level as your progress toward the next belt.

Ascension Waves
Continues → ∞
It never ends. After Kapuluan come the Waves (Alon II, III…), each raising the bar with a prestige ★.
♾️
The six named Stages are the core journey. There is no locked, dead-end final stage — after Kapuluan the climb continues forever as Ascension Waves. There is always a higher rung.

The rules

What moves you up

♻️ Exchanges per location
~70%

The heart of the score — how much recycling actually flows, measured fairly per location (never raw tonnage, so size doesn't win).

  • Coverage — how many of our locations are exchanging.
  • How much & momentum — the volume, and whether it's still flowing now.
  • Maintain ≥ 70% of your best year — fall below that and the standing drops.
  • Access — is a reachable exchange center within reach of each site.
🤝 Controllable effort
~30%

The moves you fully control — the work of building the culture, not just the recycling numbers.

  • Activate people — enrol more warriors so participation rises.
  • Invite nearby stores — so warriors can redeem EP close to each site.
  • Run missions — regular Eco-Missions keep the habit alive.
⚖️ Maintain, don't just peak. A standing you can't hold isn't real. The aim is to grow over time and keep at least 70% of your best year — if the recent pace falls too far below your best, the score can go down, not just up.
🏅
Proof, not vibes

Milestones — one per stage

Each Stage carries a single measurable milestone — a real number from real data. When you actually meet it, that stage earns a 🏅 on the ladder. A stage can never show as "done" until its milestone is genuinely met, so the ladder stays honest.

  • 1
First LightThe first exchanges exist — at least one location has started recycling.
  • 2
AwakeningNearly every location is exchanging (coverage climbing toward 80%).
  • 3
ConnectingRecovery is linked to people and there's at least one nearby place to redeem.
  • 4
The CurrentThe flow is sustained and growing — and held at ≥ 70% of your best year.
  • 5
The CultureIt's a shared habit — participation, redemption density and missions hit the band target.
  • 6
Nation-scaleYou've begun activating other units — buildings, businesses or barangays around you.
🏅
Passed stages show a 🏅 in the dashboard ladder with the real proof behind it. It's a beginning, not a finish line — the next stage opens the moment you clear one.

For program leaders

For admins — reading & running it

Everything lives on the 🏝️ Eco-Champion tab of the corporate dashboard. Top to bottom, here's what to read:

Read the tab

🔎 "Are you exchanging enough?"

The hero at the top answers the one question that matters — whether recovery is keeping pace. Green means the current is healthy; a dip means it's time to re-activate quiet sites.

Read the tab

🎯 The goal card

Shows the single highest-leverage next step, computed live (e.g. "re-activate 4 locations that went quiet"). Never guess the next move — this card names it.

🪜 The ladder

Read the tab

🗺️ The climb ahead

A roadmap from where you are up through Kapuluan and into the Waves, each with its milestone — so you can plan the moves far in advance, not just the next rung.

Run it

🚩 Run an Eco-Mission

Launch a time-boxed recycling challenge from the Engagement tab. Regular missions build the habit and lift the effort score — cadence is 20% of the effort block.

Run it

🏪 Invite nearby stores

Use the Recruitment tab to invite nearby stores as redemption partners, so warriors can redeem EP close to every site. This raises redemption density.

Run it

📦 Grow exchanges at quiet sites

Spot sites that went quiet and get a monthly drop-off going at every location. Re-activating quiet sites is usually the fastest Level-to-Level move.

Run it

👥 Activate people

Push individual enrolment so participation rises from the baseline toward the Enterprise-band target. Activation is the biggest slice of the effort block.

📊
All figures come from measured data (the bXTRA PH DB recovery ledger and rollup) — coverage, growth, participation, missions. No number is a guess; if a signal isn't measured, it can't set a goal.
Quick answers

Frequently asked

?Do I need an exchange center in my own building?
No. Use the nearest exchange / drop-off center (MBE-C or TTCB Mart) — it doesn't have to be inside your own facility. The system counts the centers your people can reach, so a site with no on-site center is never penalized for using a nearby one. See the map →
?Is EP cash?
No — EP is not cash and can't be withdrawn. You redeem it for goods & services at bXTRA PH partner stores, where 1 EP = ₱1 in value. Think of it as a reward you redeem, not money you take out.
?We were great last year but we're slow this year — what happens?
Your standing can go down. The aim is not to always be #1 — it's to maintain at least 70% of your best year. If the recent pace falls too far below your best, the "keep the current flowing" milestone breaks and the Stage can drop. Steady beats spiky.
?Where do I sign up?
Open a bXTRA account — that's what saves your EP and tags your recyclables to your effort. Then tell your team the number or email you used so your drops count toward our climb. Sign up →
